"Toledo & Paris: TMA - Louvre Collection Connections" Lecture by Lawrence W. Nichols
From a Middle Kingdom (2300-1590 B.C.) Egyptian necklace to Edouard Vuillard’s 1922 painting, La Salle Clarac, there are surprising associations and connections between objects in the collections of the Toledo Museum of Art and the Musée du Louvre in Paris.
Researched during a five-month stay earlier this year in the City of Lights by Lawrence W. Nichols, TMA curator emeritus, this lecture will illuminate some of the many relationships, including works by Guercino, Cavallino, Le Sueur, Solimena, and Cades, as well as examples by 19th-century French masters David, Gros, Gericault, and Berjon, among others.

I never liked the polygon paintings, but have come to embrace them. Stella made some great paintings...
Went there on a field trip as a kid, it had some visuals I'll never forget i gotta go back
Great presentation!
LoVed it!! 👏🏽 thank you for sharing. I will try this week!!
well done on all that scratchings...
One of my favorite artist ever
Its not often you go to an exhibition and feel you are in the company of true genius .It’s the feeling that the artist has transcended the self and its relation to the culture it came out off. It resides in a timeless space that is of its time and yet is still vital and relevant in all future time . Frank Stella’s work achieves that. It honours the work for it to be brought together and shown as the artist conceived it.
Love how passionate this artist is about sharing her technique and talents.
I'd love to use your video in my classroom but the closed captioning is wrong. Can you clean it up?
Thanks for letting us know, Cindy. We'll adjust the closed captioning and let you now when it's been updated!
very valuable information, great job Mr. Paul Binnie
Loved this video! best part.. "..Maybe?."
Troy Andrews is 👑Everything👑 I Simply Adore Him!💋
Troy"Trombone Shorty"Andrews and Orleans Avenue are🌟🇯🇦🇿🇿🌟🇸🇺🇵🇪🇷🇸🇹🇦🇷🇸🌟🎶🎷💋👅
Will the other half of the video ever be posted? This is a great resource!
I would of liked to take a shot at creating this video. (sound) love the message!
Splendid!
sorry my brain dose not play
Very cool video. Thanks for posting. What type of wax is used for the cold waxing and what type of wax is used for the hot waxing? Do you use steel wool for applying the wax? Or just the brush?
A really informative video. Thank you so much. ( I love your sense of humour!)
Nice lesson in unloading a crate.
I loved her presentation. I still use someof her video examples to connect with young people. I wish I could have purchased her book that is no longer available
One of the better teachers that I've had. Back in 1959 he showed me that adults were capable of being curious and enthusiastic. What a shock. Glad to see he's remained as playful as ever. Many blessings.
I was incredibly lucky to have the Toledo Museum of Art so close by when growing up. It is an amazing building with a wonderful collection. The fact that they have free admission is just insane/awesome! I loved this extra long workshop video--thanks for posting it. I learned more about the art of Japanese Woodblock printing than I have from several books. This is inspiring!
Ahahahahaaaa!! That cough at 39:58 xD I jumped right outta my seat.
This is the best video! I share it with my students when we talk about Frank Stella!
Wealth of information. Thank you for sharing!

Along with small communities, we also need more jobs that can be done from home as well as online schools. Drones and service trucks delivering packages and groceries to our homes would greatly reduce the maintenance of our infrastructure.
Puzzles are definitely addicting! Condensing, organizing and saving money plays a large role throughout an entire lifetime.
A tiny house community still involves paying rent and putting up with your neighbors.
With the downfall of our economy, tiny houses offer a safe environment.
Fascinating.
Would love to ask him how he feels about digital 'concept art'.
Slap Stick We're currently collecting questions from our online audience for his artist talk on Sat., Feb. 7, 2015. We'll include yours with the others.
Toledo Museum of Art Thanks.Just to clarify the question: It refers to the thousands of digital artists that predominantly use photoshop to create amazing art, mostly for video games, and usually focuses on themes such as war, armageddon, and apocalyptic imagery. Many young artists with a background in classical art are gravitating to this new medium.
Slap Stick You got it. Thanks!
What a life.
I Love you Varujan Boghosian !
This is a helpful and important contribution from Nick which helps us to think about a different type of view and engagement. Great for educators, artists and professionals who can all think again about "unflattening" images of their work.
SO VERY TRUE!
Wish I could of been there.
Super interesting, thanks a lot for posting this. Very useful documentation. .the last question of the audience was a real waste... :(
We LOVE this book!
This was very informative, thank you for sharing
I Love the Toledo Museum of Art. What a treasure.
Good
That is an amazing kinetic piece of work! I love it!
Who shot/edited this masterpiece?

Toledo Museum of Art was this real?
it was awesome meeting Chris and just listening to him talk about the stuff we love and why we love it was an experience i would sit through again and again.
Priceless work of art. Doesn't matter if you're into glassblowing or not, that is art.
Nice. Can't wait to go.
Going to the game creation camp as well- I switched your registration this week.
jury's still out on Frank Stella for me - he has been on the seen for a long time - i never dismiss an Artist or Art as not relevant - Many Artist over the years have become clear to me later on - (a light came on) -
This is a great interview. I love the tiny house movement and Jay is so interesting.
